PowerPoint software from Microsoft is useful in creating a wide variety of simple posters. There are some basic steps that you can follow to create a good looking poster using the PowerPoint software.
The first step is to determine the poster size. The slide (paper) size can be customized in PowerPoint. Regardless of the chosen slide size, the PowerPoint offers the ability for the user to control the paper size while printing the slide. The usual paper size that is chosen by most of the students is 36 inches. Depending on the occasion of the poster, some may choose a 42 inch paper. However, for simple posters, the 36 inch paper is adequate. In addition to this, the 42 inch paper requires a special printer which may or may not be available at all colleges. If not available, the students need to pay for the services of a nearby printing press. The paper setup is done through the file menu. It is advisable to fix the paper size, before beginning the poster design in PowerPoint.
